Did you know that ...

bullet Some 200 German restaurants were crowned with at least one Michelin star. Germany has the most 3-star chefs after France.
bullet The original German "Bratwurst" (fried or roasted sausage) comes from Thuringia – a state in East Germany - known as Thüringer Rostbratwurst.
bullet King Frederick the Great of Prussia brought the potato from the South American Andes to Germany and made it popular as probably nowhere else in the world. So popular that since the 18th century the potato can be found on every menu.
bullet Beer is still the favoured alcoholic beverage in Germany and with good reason – it is a land of beer diversity, after all. Should you want to sample a different beer every day here, it would take 13 years to work your way through the list! There are between 5,000 – 6,000 different beer brands and every third brewery in the world is located in Germany.
bullet The arrival of Asparagus, or Spargel, is an eagerly anticipated sign of spring in Germany. During the season (May – June), almost every eatery in Germany offers a Spargelkarte, a special asparagus menu, in addition to their regular menu.
bullet In winter, Germany reveals its most atmospheric side. Over 2,500 Christmas markets in wonderful settings invite you to share in the joy of the pre- Christmas season and enter into Germany's special festive mood. Delicious aromas in the air: "Glühwein", roasted almonds, Christmas spices – visting a Christmas market is a unique experience.

Culture - German Restaurant & Stores

German meals are as versatile as its 5,000 different kinds of beer. Whether fish, beef, or potatoes - which are served either as salt potatoes, stewed potatoes or as potato-cakes - nothing more could be missing from a menu. However, what would Germany be without sausage prepared plain-boiled, boiled with spices, raw or as bratwurst?
